Roamer Spring Tour 2017 at Gulpd Cafe (triskel Arts Centre)
Roamer is an exciting new project that brings together four of Ireland’s most internationally active improvising musicians.
Vocalist Lauren Kinsella was recently announced as the 2016 Jazz FM UK Vocalist of the Year; saxophonist Matthew Halpin was the first Irish musician to receive the presidential scholarship to study at the prestigious Berklee College of Music; Simon Jermyn is one of the most in-demand creative music bassists in New York and drummer Matthew Jacobson tours Ireland and Europe frequently with many leading improvising musicians and ensembles.
Although based in Dublin, Cologne, New York and London, all four musicians came together in July 2016 for a two-night sold-out run at Arthur's Blues'n'Jazz Club in Dublin, presented jointly by the Improvised Music Company, Diatribe Records and BlueMoods. The quartet then kept the ball rolling with a further Dublin date in December at Tivoli Backstage.
This Spring tour sees the group develop and workshop new material in collaboration with Irish London-based poet Cherry Smyth and will travel to Kilkenny, Galway, Bray Jazz Festival and Cork.
Each “roamer” has represented Ireland extensively on stages around the world and this group provides a unique opportunity for Irish audiences to see what happens when they bring all this experience together on home soil.
This event is supported by an Arts Council Ireland Project Award.
